The fun season is upon us. Thanksgiving just passed, Halloween is coming and before we know it Christmas will be here. It's super easy to over indulge over the holidays. I have been getting asked a lot of questions about which detox or cleanse I recommend. My whole goal with clients is to teach them a way to eat so they avoid the whole binge/diet roller coaster. I want eating healthy to be your lifestyle and something that is maintainable long term. It all comes down to balance. You should be able to enjoy a glass of wine with your friends and have a piece of your Grandma's pumpkin pie and not feel guilty about it. Does this mean you should indulge all the time? No, but sometimes these things are good for our mind and soul.
If you have indulged a little bit too much over the weekend or holidays, try these tips to get yourself back on track and feeling good again.
Always start you day with a glass of warm lemon water. The first thing I do when I get up is head to the kitchen and drink a big glass of water with some fresh lemon juice squeezed in. This is so good for waking up your digestive system and detoxing the liver.
Add apple cider vinegar to your water. Adding apple cider vinegar to your water and drinking it before meals helps increase stomach acid, allows your food to be broken down and nutrients to be absorbed easier. Adding it to you water bottle and sipping throughout the day can also help to reduce sugar cravings.
Add more green to all your meals. Include as many green leafy veggies as you can into your day. Try blending spinach into your smoothie, grab a green juice or add a greens powder to your water. Greens help to reduce free radicals and support a heathy liver.
Drink at least 2 litres of water and cut out excess caffeine and alcohol. I always recommend clients to aim for at least 2 litres of water per day. This helps the body get rid of excess toxins.
Sweat! Exercise is so good for stimulating the lymphatic system, boosting immunity and energy levels as well as releases toxins.
