Healthy Q and A with Zachary Fiorido

May 7, 2018

I had the pleasure of working with Zachary at Equinox in Vancouver not too long ago. He is one of the instructors there and he was always bouncing and smiling  even at 6 in the morning! He is super inspiring and full of light so thought he would be the perfect candidate for a healthy q and a. Have a read as he shares with us how he got into health and wellness and what a typical day in the life looks like for him.

Share a little bit with us. Who are you and what do you do?

Hello! My name is Zachary Fiorido and I am a certified fitness instructor, film & tv actor and creator of Beauty & The Fit. I came up with the idea of Beauty & The Fit in 2014 after going through a transformational year. I had many peaks and valleys that made me the person I am today. I learnt that beauty comes from within and strength can be found through any obstacles that you face. Beauty & The Fit is about creating Beautiful Souls, Fit Bodies. We are a community where we workout together, eat clean, embrace our personalities and learn how to be the best version of ourselves. With a positive mindset we can do amazing things.

How did you get into the health and wellness community?

Growing up I was never interested in sports or fitness. I was all about the arts. Drama, theatre, singing, you name it. I disliked the competition aspects of sports and the not so fun workout routines our P.E Teachers in High School made us do. While attending acting school I stumbled on a Home Fitness DVD program called “Turbo Jam” created by Chalene Johnson. I was instantly hooked! It was a kick-box, dance, tae-bo workout set to the hottest dance music! I fell in love with working out. Turbo Jam made me excited to exercise and I saw the benefits both inside and out. Right then and there I knew that I had to teach this fitness program live. I became a certified instructor, a Personal Trainer and have since worked at numerous gyms, and presented at international fitness expos.

What inspires you?

Knowing that I can make a positive difference in someone else's life. (I got excited just typing that) :)

What is your food philosophy?

Lean, Clean and Green

Walk us through what a typical day looks like for you..

My life consists of lots of working out, eating clean, cooking clean, teaching fitness classes, personal training clients, filming workout routines, reading, meditating, acting and of course learning. Every experience or encounter in life is yet another opportunity to learn and grow your beautiful soul. Oh and Instagraming! Lots of Instagraming. (Follow me @ZacharyFiorido)

What are some of your go-to foods/snacks for busy days?

Veggies and hummus.

Fruit (love Apples & oranges)

I'll try and pick up a juice or fresh smoothie if I have time.

What has been one of your biggest struggles?

Biggest struggle for me is being consistent with my workouts and clean eating. I noticed that when life gets crazy my health doesn't necessarily come first.  I've started to do yoga more often throughout the week and it has helped me slow down and focus on my priorities.

What advice do you have for those starting out in their wellness journey?

I'll share 3 pieces of advice:

  1. One step at a time is better than none.

  2. Talk to yourself in a positive voice / mindset.

  3. Drink water, water and more water! Sprinkle in some lemon/ginger if H20 isn't your thing.
