The Best Healthy Banana Bread

This banana bread has been my tried and true recipe that I’ve been using for the last 5 years. It’s made with simple ingredients and is low sugar. You could even have it for breakfast if you wanted to.

This recipe is gluten and dairy free and kiddos love it!

Ingredients in Health Banana Bread

Bananas: Best to use really ripe, spotty bananas for the best flavour.

Oatmeal: Oats provide a great source of complex carbs and fiber. Use gluten free oats to make it gluten free.

Ground flaxseed: A great souce of healthy fats and fiber, great for balanced blood sugar and supporting hormone health.

Olive oil: A healthy oil that adds some nice moisture to the bread. Could also use coconut oil or melted butter.

How to Make Healthy Banana Bread

This recipe is super simple and requires only one bowl. Add all the wet ingredients to a bowl, mix well and then add the remaining dry ingredients. Easy peasy!

Healthy Banana Bread

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 small or 2 large ripe bananas, mashed

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/3 cup almond milk

  • 2 tbsp olive or coconut oil, melted

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Dry Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups oat flour (blend whole oats in a food processor or magic bullet)

  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar

  • 2 tbsps ground flaxseeds

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

Optional add ins: Dark chocolate chips, walnuts or blueberries!

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line a bread pan with parchement paper or grease with butter or oil.

  2. Combine mashed bananas, eggs, almond milk, oil and vanilla in a large mixing bowl and mix together.

  3. In the same bowl, add in all dry ingredients and mix until well combined.

  4. Stir in chocolate chips or walnuts if desired.

  5. Pour mixture into bread pan and bake for 50-55 minutes. Allow to cool before serving.
